- The hard part
- Deferred deep linking has to carry an intention across a gap where almost nothing survives. Someone taps a link, leaves for the store, installs, and opens a fresh app that has never heard of them. Android has a real answer: a token rides through the install referrer and matches exactly. iOS has no token. All that is left is a coincidence of address and timing, which is a guess. Warplink scores that guess out loud, weighing how recent the click was and whether language and platform agree, and it refuses to answer when several devices share one address. An office network should produce a miss, not a stranger's destination.
- A call we made
- One rule governs the whole thing: a signal may veto a match, never win one. The person who just installed is almost always the most recent click, and letting any bonus outrank that could hand someone the destination meant for a colleague on the same office network. Warplink matches less often than a looser system would. We are comfortable with that trade. A miss costs a redirect. A wrong match costs somebody their privacy.
- What it taught us
- Errors are the easy failures. Something throws, something pages, somebody looks. The dangerous kind return a clean response and never match: no exception, no log line, and from the outside identical to a feature nobody has discovered yet. Every matching path we ship now reports a success rate that somebody actually watches.
